Storage Facility and Charity Nourish Community Effort

DETROIT, MI. Feb 27, 2020 – Beyond Self Storage recently formalized their partnership with Gleaners, a Detroit based non-profit established to provide households with access to sufficient, nutritious food and related resources. “We continue to look to our locally-based charities to fulfill our commitment to Living Generously. We love finding opportunities to be a great partner with philanthropies that serve the communities we serve; we want to establish ourselves as community partners,” states Director of Marketing, Lara Anderson.

After seeing the passion and responsiveness of the Gleaners team, Beyond knew they had found a great fit for a charity partner in their growing presence in the suburban Detroit market. Both parties have plans to integrate each other in their events, promote their mission on social media and solidify their presence as caring, active members of suburban Detroit.

On February 14, Gleaners felt the love and solidified their partnership with Beyond by registering with Charity Storage. This program, implemented in all Beyond stores, helps to bridge the gap between storage facilities and non-profits by working with Storage Treasures, an online self-storage auction directory. Customers of Beyond are able to bring in their new and gently used items they no longer have a need for and donate to the “Gleaners Unit.” When the unit is full of items and ready to go to auction, the Beyond team posts photos on Storage Treasures and promotes the sale of the unit’s contents to members of the community.

Gleaners was founded in 1977 and is recognized as one of the first food banks in the United States. The company has grown and now operates five distribution centers in Southeast Michigan and provides nutrition education to 171,000 children annually. Beyond employees have already begun signing up for volunteer shifts and the teams are anxious to raise funds for donation, as every dollar donated provides three meals to hungry members of the community. “Partnering with organizations like Beyond Self

Storage, that employ passionate team members and have a growing presence in the region, is important as we unify the community in our fight to end food insecurity,” said Terry Collia, Director of Marketing at Gleaners Community Food Bank. “Whether it’s through signing up for volunteer shifts or by raising funds for Gleaners via their Charity Storage auctions, Beyond Self Storage has shown a willingness to step up and support the people of Southeastern Michigan.”

Beyond Self Storage will be hosting future “drive-thru drives” where customers at all four locations in Rochester Hills, Macomb, Sterling Heights, and Commerce Township, can easily donate items at the facilities, without leaving the comfort of their vehicle! The company plans to open a fifth area location in Farmington Hills in late 2021.
